Homologation
Home / Homologation
MAGAL is the sole representative of several of the leading European and American automotive laboratories in the world.
The Standards department provides European homologation (licensing) services to clients in Israel and abroad, via the DEKRA laboratory in Germany.
We are the sole representatives of the DEKRA laboratory in Israel.
We perform homologation tests (certification) in Israel, according to directives EC2007/46 or EC2018/858 up to the stage of receiving registration approval from the Israel Ministry of Transport and Road Safety (IMOT), the preliminary stage in the Israeli motor vehicle licensing process.
The standardization department provides support for clients, providing automotive homologation and standardization services, from the planning stage, through all the manufacturing stages and relevant standardization tests, to obtain the required European standardization certification. IMOT is part of the process and approves the results of the tests.
Individual vehicle approval (IVA)
Approving individual vehicles or a small number of vehicles.
IVA allows a vehicle that has lost its original standardization because of modifications to the vehicle to be licensed and/or vehicles designed as such originally.
The process is conducted according to EU2018/858 or EU2007/46 that ensures:
Vehicle safety
Environmental quality protection
Safety of other vehicles on the road.
Pre-homologation
Testing conducted during the vehicle development process, that provides the manufacturer with the full picture regarding compliance with the relevant required standards. In the framework of the test all the faults are itemized along with the modifications necessary to comply with the required standards and complete the official certification process. Upon completion of the process the manufacturer receives a test report that presents the test findings and recommendations for the future.
Series certification
To comply with European standards according to the relevant directives for the vehicle/component categories submitted for IVA.
A "series" certification can then be obtained for an individual chassis number of additional vehicles identical to the prototype model, based on the prototype approval.
Small series
Approval for producing a small series of vehicles
Individual approval for an automotive system
Some of our projects include:

ZIBAR
A fully certified all-terrain vehicle developed and manufactured in Israel. The vehicle’s total weight is about 5 tons, and it possesses extensive mobility and navigability capabilities on all types of terrain.
The vehicle was built completely in Israel, with a locally produced chassis and American platform improved by the vehicle manufacturer. The vehicle was tested during development and complied with the final requirements for individual approval. Upon completion of the process the vehicle was licensed for road use.

Subaru Forester (improving the vehicle's towing ability)
The vehicle arrived in Israel with North American standardization, with no documents certifying the towing weight. Based on data from an identical vehicle with European standardization, we conducted tests to certify towing weight together with the DEKRA laboratory. The vehicle passed the individual approval tests successfully and based on this certification IMOT approved the towing weight.

Plasan SandCat armored vehicle (licensing and certification)
Armored vehicles are based on existing vehicle chassis. Modifications in the vehicle structure and automotive modifications necessitate standardization tests. The tests are conducted via the individual approval process.
After passing all the required tests and based on documentation from the DEKRA laboratory the vehicle will receive Israeli certification from IMOT.

Adding an axle (to a commercial truck to increase the permitted weight)
After an axle is added and/or its location is modified it is necessary to conduct automotive tests to ensure vehicle stability, braking data and steering. The tests are conducted via the individual approval process.
After passing all the required tests and based on documentation from the DEKRA laboratory the vehicle will receive Israeli certification from IMOT.

Increasing the total weight of a Toyota Hilux (to allow it to participate in a tender)
Increasing the vehicle weight, modifying its structure and automotive modifications necessitate standardization tests.
The tests are conducted via the individual approval process. After passing all the required tests and based on documentation from the DEKRA laboratory the vehicle will receive Israeli certification from IMOT.
